Slavonski Brod is situated 47 miles from Osijek and 179 miles from Dubrovnik. It is the sixth largest city in Croatia. It counts more than 60 thousands inhabitants and it represents a major traffic and transportation crossroads location in the country. It is also placed on the Sava river being thus, a river port, its old name meaning “water crossing”.
Slavonski Brod, located in the eastern part of Croatia is also a railway junction and a modern highway is going to be constructed at around 16 km from the heart of the city, which will transform it in an important city in this part of the Europe.

Thus, the children’s festival entitled 'In the World of the Fairy Tales of Writer Ivana Brlic Mazuranic” is considered to be the most important cultural event that takes place every year and it is devided into two sections that take place in May and June.
There is also a tradition that refers to water-colouring painting and it is very appreciated by the locals. “The International Folklore Festival” is an event that brings to light the folklore of Croats living in and outside the country, all being presented in an ethnographic exhibition, music shows, dance workshops, folk singing and film projections.

The educational system consists of pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, a branch of the Osijek University, the Primary School Teacher Training College and other colleges.
