Limon, Costa Rica Sights

Limon is surrounded with many beautiful beaches, with its coral reefs that catch a lot of attention of divers and sea lovers. Limon’s national reserves, botanical gardens, cliffs, and canals all have their unique charm that makes visitors want to stay more. In the beaches of Tortuguero, it is even possible to catch a look at sea turtles that are laying eggs in the sand. Snorkelers and surfers alike, love to stay on the beaches of Tortugero.

There are many other tourist attractions in the Province of Limon. One of its most visited venues is the Tortuguero National Park. The park is situated on a 19,000 hectare property that houses over 300 species of tropical birds. It also features quite a number of varieties of animals. Almost 60 amphibian species are being maintained at this park and there are also over a 110 species of reptiles, close to 60 species of mammals, and a number of varieties of turtles.

Back in the 1960’s, a dredging operation was conducted within the Province of Limon. This dredging resulted to the formation of some canals which are now part of the main tourist attractions of Limon. A variety of birds would often visit the canals such as kingfishers, egrets, jacanas, and herons.

 Other tourist attractions in Limon are the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve, which is offered as a guided tour.

There are also other venues that can be interesting to visit, like Cahuita National Park, La Amistad International Park, Chirripo National Park,, Barra del Colorado National Wildlife Refuge, the Braulio camillo national Park, and the Hitoy-Cerere Biological Reserve. Tours to these places are offered daily.
