Cucuta is a city located at the northeastern part of Colombia.  Since it is situated at the border of Colombia and Venezuela, this city is considered as one of the key commercial hubs in the country.  Reaching the different travel destinations in the area is possible as long as you get the following information.

The city of Cucuta has one airport which is the Camilo Daza Airport and it is around 4 kilometers from the heart of the city.  This airport only serves domestic flights bound for and coming from the major cities in Colombia such as Bogota, Medellin, Cali, and Cartagena.  Another close airport from Cucuta is the San Antonio del Táchira which is 12 kilometers from the city and is located at Venezuela.  Travelers can ride a taxi from the airport to the city’s center.

Another way of entering the city is through bus rides.  Bogota and Caracas have direct bus trips to Cucuta.  The buses pool in the La Terminal de Transportes de Cucuta.  Tourists must be aware that the bus fares must be paid only at the bus company offices and not to any person asking for it because these are con men.

When exploring the city, tourists can take a bus, a taxi or a bicycle.  The bus fare is very inexpensive however they are not very comfortable and safe because they tend to be crowded.   Some do not have air conditioning and other drivers race with the buses of the rival bus company.  On the other hand, a taxi ride costs more than a bus ride yet passengers are assured to have a secured trip.  Tourists who want to have a more enjoyable and exciting way of touring around the city could ride a bicycle which they call the Ciclo-Via.  Just be sure that you have a helmet and reflective vest when traveling on a bicycle.

Cucuta City has two distinct seasons. One is the dry season that takes place from December to March. The other is the wet season which happens from April to November. The month of August is an exemption because days during this month are sunny and windy.  The average temperature in Cucuta is 28°C.

The city of Cucuta has several festivals that they observe every year apart from national holidays.  Every 28th of February, the city commemorates the Battle of Cucuta wherein there are parades around the city.  The Feast of San Jose, who is the patron saint of the city, is observed every 19th of March.  The city celebrates its birthday every 17th of June where there are fireworks and several civic events.
