Chongqing Sights and Landmarks Guide, China

Although Chongqing is scarce in terms of remarkable sights within the city proper, the religious cliff sculptures and the beautiful region of the Yangzi River nearby, has made it an important tourist hub in China.

Let’s visit a few of Chongqing’s rich historical facts and grand structures.  One of Chongqing’s must-see sights is the Luohan Temple.  It was built during the Song Dynasty.  You’ll appreciate its beauty when you know a bit of its history.  Do you know that this temple has been destroyed twice?  It was also reconstructed twice, once in 1752 and repeatedly in 1945.  Seventy monks once lived in this temple, today, you’ll find less than 20 residing.

Seeing Chongqing’s port will remind you of its importance to the city’s development and share in its growth as a major transport center and industrial trade.  It was but a silent port 60 years ago, now bustling with activity and trade.  Don’t miss Chaotianmen when you dock at this port.  It’s a very interesting place to see while you watch vessels anchor at mid-river as they load and unload.

Strolling along Chongqing’s many parks will give you a simple feeling of relaxation.  Each park has its hidden beauty.  Go further and you’ll surely find its jewel, I’m referring to the Northern Hot Springs located in a large park of Chongqing.  It lies about 55 kilometers northeast of the city.  The park also houses the site of an old 5th century Buddhist temple.  Enjoy swimming at the Olympic-size swimming pool and flaunt your swimming prowess with the crowd.  The place is excellent for picnics and get-togethers with families and friends.  It’s also a home outside the busy city life.  Hotsprings has improved facilities like private rooms with hot baths available for those who want to stay overnight or rent them for a whole day affair.

Another popular tourist attraction in Chongqing is the Red Crag Village.  It is located outside Chongqing.  It has a very rich historical past during the Kuomintang-Communist alliance against the Japanese forces during the World War II.  This village was used as a military quarters and offices.  You'll feel part of the Village’s history when you find out that many famous leaders once lived in this village, namely Zhou Inlay, Deng Yingchao and Ye Jianying.

Simply looking outside the windows of your hotel, you’ll see so much beauty in Chongqing.  With its good climate, walking along their avenues will be relaxing and enjoyable.
