The city of Changchun is partly a prefecture level city for China as it is ruled by the government of Jilin Province, but when it comes to law and economy then the city of Changchun is governed independently. As it is bordered by so many important countries, it becomes a very important city.

The best known industry of Changchun City is the automobile industry, which is famous in China. Around 50 percent of trains for this city are manufactured in the city. Over 10 percent of the tractors and around 20 percent of automobiles are also manufactured in this city and all this is enough to make the city the automobile manufacturing hub of China.

The city of Changchun has been divided into four economic zones namely Jingyuetan tourism Economic Development Zone of Changchun, Changchun Technology Development Zone of Changchun, Changchun High Technology Industry Development Zone of Changchun, and Changjiang Lu Science and Technology Commercial Development Zone of Changchun.

This industrial city regularly hosts national level festivals like the Film Festival of Changchun, International Automobile Fair of Changchun, Education Exhibition of Changchun, Agricultural Fair of Changchun, and Sculpture Exhibition of Changchun.
