La Serena Sights has a huge list of tourist hot spots which will surely need many days if you are serious about visiting all of them. The list could be shorter than what you can experience in Santiago, but it is still enough for a few day’s holiday.

La Serena Sights - Mamalluca Observatory

This famous observatory of La Serena was built in 1995 and its major reason was to attract tourists towards the city. Since then, this observatory has been a major tourist attraction especially for those who want to enjoy the stars. The northern part of Chile is famous worldwide for such activities due to its clear skies and hence this is the best place to enjoy stars so closely and clearly. Entry fee is $5 for adults and $2 for kids (from age 5 to 12).

La Serena Sights – The Flea Market

We are not exactly sure if this will be a must see place for every tourist but we are certain that most will like to enjoy the sight of this market at least once. It is full of junk, but if you give some it time, you might stumble upon something very interesting at a very low price. It totally depends on your luck. It is located in the proximity of Mall Plaza and outside the Santa Isabel Grocery Store. On Saturdays, this market is open from 10 AM to 2 PM.

La Serena Sights - Damas Island in the Proximity

Located around 140 kilometers from La Serena is a very interesting place famous by the name Punta de Choros. From this place, you can take a guided tour for the famous Damas Island which is also the national reserve of Chile. You will get the chance to enjoy the sight of sea gulls, sea lions, Humboldt penguins, bottle nose dolphins, and various other species in the waters around this island. You will surely be surprised to enjoy the sight of many dolphins jumping around the water. Try swimming with them if you want to.
