Prescott Travel Guide, Ontario

Prescott is an excellent destination whether you have just one day at your disposal or more. You will always find something to see and do as the offer is pretty generous. There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities: motor boating, boating, sailing, windsurfing, sail boarding on the river diving, fishing, golfing or scuba diving to some of the historic wrecks. Pick any activity and you will have a lot of fun.

For slow movers there’s always the sightseeing, visiting historic sites and enjoying the magnificent views St. Lawrence River. One of the best places for viewing is the Rotary Lighthouse which overlooks the harbour and offers a fabulous view from the top. You can also buy here some souvenirs.

Located in Eastern Ontario near Ottawa and Montreal, this town of approximately 4,200 residents has a charm that attracts tourists every year. It is true that its location has something to do with it too. The Saint Lawrence River is magnificent offering great views and excellent recreational opportunities. Its importance in the economy of the town is obvious as it links the town with the Great Lakes and the Atlantic.

You would expect to see a harbour around and there is one called the Sandra S. Lawn Harbour with a Marina. It opens in May on the Victoria Day weekend and is a major attraction offering great boating facilities to all pleasure-seekers. There’re electrical and water services, dockage possibility for any length of time, clean spaces, and entertainment opportunities at the outdoor amphitheatre called Bandshell and Outdoor Amphitheatre where you can take in a concert.

Where there’s water there are kids and there's no exception here. Locals have thought about keeping kids happy too and they have great opportunities to play at the children's boat play structure and playground area or watch the ships go by their business at the picnic area by the water.

But kids are not the only ones fascinated and attracted by water. So the place is just as great a destination for kids as it is for adults. The most loved activity is scuba diving as the water is pretty clean and you can see a great number of historic wrecks among which you can see the shipwrecks of Rothesay and Conestoga.

Besides the harbor you can find other great placed to visit. For example on the west side of town next to the Canadian Coast Guard Base you will find a lovely park, a sandy beach and nice vessels to look at.

Downtown Prescott is the place where the town’s historic heritage can be seen. History buffs will love taking the Heritage Tour of Prescott that offers great insight into the town’s history with the possibility to see some handsome homes and military fortifications. One of the attractions is the restored Fort Wellington dating 1838 where you can see the officer´s quarters, the latrine and other interesting points. On the list of attractions there’s also the Forwarders' Museum and Visitor Centre dating 1820´s originally built to be a warehouse

But besides history you can see great shops offering a variety of products in a delightful atmosphere. Then there’s the Farmers' Market where you can sample some fresh products of the local people and nice crafts.

Knowing these you must agree that a trip to Prescott is a must. There are historic sites, great shop, a lovely waterfront offering plenty of sightseeing and activities and much more you just have to come and discover the rest.
