Brunei Nightlife, Brunei Darussalam

No Alcohol

The Sultanate of Brunei is a strict Islamic country. Once the sun sets down, most of the locals head to their homes and the streets are virtually empty. Islam religion forbids the drinking of any alcoholic beverage. This is keenly followed by the locals of Brunei. Due to this factor there are no local pubs and no casinos. Moreover there aren’t any night clubs or dance floors. However, the foreigners and the non-Muslims are allowed to bring about 12 cans of beer and 2 bottles with them. They have to follow strict guidelines and can consume liquor only within their households.

 Peaceful streets

There are several restaurants and café along the streets of Brunei. These serve tea and coffee only. You will never hear loud entertaining music over here. The music at home, too, has to be listened at low volumes so that the neighbors don’t get irritated.

The real nightlife in Brunei can be spent walking along the peaceful streets. You will see the spectacular sights of the beautiful mosques whose domes are covered with 22-carat gold. These mosques are illuminated during the evenings and you will feel emotionally satisfied when you will see the soft moonlight falling over them. The city is fairly free of pollution. Hence you will breathe fresh air while admiring the city. Anyways it is better than sitting in the confines of your air-conditioned hotel room.

 Cafes

Royalle Café in Jalan Sultan is a great place to be in for a cup of hot espresso. There is a coffee house in Gadong called Coffee Bean which has a pool table. You can visit this place in case you are looking for some night sport. There are several Starbucks coffee outlets where you can visit and enjoy your favorite beverage. The famous Gadong Fish Market is in the Mall of Gadong. Here you can find various local delicacies and fish delicacies in case you wish to satisfy your hunger pangs. A popular cuisine - barbequed chicken tail is also a local specialty.

 Other places

The local amusement parks are open to the public and they charge a minimum entrance fee. Here you can enjoy various rides. The Jerudong Park houses a tower from where you can take a look at the magnificent city from the top.

Being a Muslim country, women have to be dressed conservatively. Both men and women have to stay under control.

Even though the city observes some strict rules, it has some scenic places to visit. The people are friendly and the food is superb.
