Location:   Duque de Caxias a suburban city in the South Eastern corner of Brazil lies in the southern segment of the state of Rio de Janerio. It is in close proximity to the cities of Sao Jaao De Meriti, Belford Roxo, Nilopolis, Nova Iquacu and Rio de Janerio. These cities are at distances of 8 km to 15 km from Duque de Caxias.

The city covers an area of 465 sq. km. This is the 2nd richest center in Rio de Janerio and is the commercial hub with oil refineries and chemical plants.

Weather:  Duque de Caxias can be visited all the year round. However, the Southern part of Duque de Caxias gets extremely humid during summer months.

Transport:  The city is well connected by railways, highways, air and waterways. The airport at Rio de Janerio lies very close to the city center and its harbor facilities is also enjoyed by the inhabitants of Duque de Caxias.

Places of Interest:  Duque de Caxias is a renowned tourist center where travelers flock to see the beautiful sights and learn about its rich cultural heritage. The historical center of Alameda Duque de Caxias an attractive spot is also named as the “street of palm trees” which was founded by Dr. Herman Bruno Otto Blumeanan. The museum of the colonial family, located at Alameda, houses all the artifacts of the colonial era including clothing, domestic and other incredible historic items. Dr. Fritz Mueller Library another noteworthy tourist spot contains a lovely collection of books, also available in Braille. 

Other tourist centers worth visiting include Professor Jose Ferreira de Silva Historical Archive where the ancient photographs and research catalogues are kept. It also holds informative materials on Santa Catarina and Itajar Valley. A wooded forest called Edith Gaertner Botanical Park houses a cat cemetery founded by the grand niece of Dr. Blumeanan. The Evangelical Church contains a cemetery where the mortal remains of the founder members and scientist, Dr. Fritz Mueller, are interned. This church was designed by the reputed architect Henrich Krohberger.

Industrial and Commercial Development:  The polypropylene plant in this city is the oldest unit which was modernized and expanded in 2001. This city has many renowned industrial plants and commercial centers. A football team is also named after this city.

 Accommodation:  There is no dearth of star hotels, motels and guest houses for tourists and business travelers. Names and locations are available from the Brazilian tourism ministry. The inhabitants are warm, welcoming and helpful.
