Duque de Caxias is a famous tourist spot. Every year a large number of people from all over the world come to Duque de Caxias to see its beautiful sights and to know more about its rich history. 

The historical centre called the Alameda Duque de Caxias is a beautiful spot. It is also called the street of palm trees. The founder of the city, Dr. Hermann Bruno Otto Blumenau, planted the first palm tree on this street. This first imperial palm tree was brought from Rio de Janeiro. 

Another significant sight is the Museum of Colonial Family. This building was the residence of a businessman and consular officer of Blumenau, Victor Gaertner. You can see a number of things like clothing, domestic items and some other beautiful pieces from the colonization period. This museum is located at Alameda Duque de Caxias.

There is a beautiful library called the Dr. Fritz Muller Library that has a lovely collection of books. It also has some collection in Braille. 

Another sight worth visiting is the Professor Jose Ferreira da Silva Historical Archive. You can find thousands of historical photos and around 45 thousand research catalogues here. It also has a library where you can find interesting material on Santa Catarina and Itajai Valley.

 A small native forest called Edith Gaertner Botanical Park is another sight in Duque de Caxias. You can see a cat cemetery in this park where the grandniece of Dr. Blumenau, Edith Gaertner used to bury her cats.

 A gothic style church called Evangelical Church also has a cemetery. The mortal remains of the principal immigrants, traditional Blumenau families, and the scientist Fritz Muller are in this cemetery. This church was inaugurated in 1877 and was designed by the famous architect, Henrich Krohberger.
