Campinas History

It was in July 14, 1774 when the city was founded by a certain Barreto Leme.  Previous to its foundation, Campinas was a simple station connected to Minas Gerias and Gojas.  It served as a route for the so-called Bandeirantes who were conducting searches for precious metals and minerals as well as Indian slaves.  During the early half of the 19th century, it was a center for sugarcane and coffee farming. read more
