Thimphu, Nightlife – General Information
Thimphu is the beautiful capital of Bhutan, located in the valley that bears its name. It offers an amazing scenery due to the beautiful landscape that surrounds it and because it is located at a high altitude of 2320 m. The local religion is Buddhism and the locals respect it with rigor, so you might find it difficult to believe they ever go out and have fun.

Vibrant is the only word that characterizes Thimphu Nightlife. The tourist crowds, that choose this country as their final destination, turn this city into a dynamic one. The clubs, bars and wineries expect you to take their pulse and the restaurants and cafes to taste their delicious meals. Once you choose a place to spend your night, entertainment begins and you basically don’t feel how time goes by.
If you don’t have a favorite drink yet, you must definitely try two of the most popular local drinks. They are called Souza and Ara. The first one is a delicious aromatic tea and the second one is a drink distilled from corn. If you think the second one is more appealing to you, it is recommended to have a good meal before, otherwise you will easily get drunk and you miss all the fun.

In Thimphu you will come across several restaurants that will remain in your memory with their cuisine. Rice and cheese are the basic ingredients in Bhutan cuisine, and the predominant flavor is chili. The staff is friendly and professional and will do its best to make your stay a perfect one.
Thimphu, Nightlife – Events
There are a lot of great local events in Thimphu. One of the most spectacular Buddhist festivals is Paro Tsechu. People dress in traditional clothes and prepare to get blessing from their Buddhist priest. The ceremony is held in the first part of the year. The second great local event is Thimphu Tsechu another religious festival. Wearing traditional clothes the locals perform dances and allegorical dramas for their Guru Padmasambhava, that “who was born of a lotus flower”. The events are full of mysticism and allure any tourist attracted to such ceremonies full of legend and history.
