Brussels nightlife not only bubbles because the city is located in the very center of Europe, but it also thrives because it holds its very own home-grown scene. Jazz, in particular, plays a big role in the city’s nightlife, as it has been present since the 1920s. The club scene, however, is rather new, but people flock here. The legal age to drink in Belgium is sixteen years old and a lot of students hop on the train from Lille to experience Brussels nightlife every weekend.
Brussels Nightlife – City Bars and Cafés
Brussels nightlife is rightfully well-known for its wide selection of various beers, some of which are even produced by monks in the various monasteries that can be found around the country. Additionally, Brussels nightlife has more idiosyncratic versions to offer, such as the fruity Kriek and fermented Gueuze, which can be found in local beer havens, such as La Rose Blanche, La Becasse and A la Mort Subite.
La Rose Blanche is a charming place in Grand Place. Its architectural framework is similar to those of houses from the 17th century, which even comes with a massive chimney and an open fire that really shows off the quaint and delicate look of the place.
La Becasse may seem a little dodgy at first glance, as it is located in a back alley, but it is highly recommended by most of the people who have experienced Brussels nightlife at its best. The decorations of the place are quite old-fashioned and even the customers look as if they are locals who have frequented this place for years. There are many different beers to choose from and it is probably the best place to really experience authentic Belgian beer drinking.
For more authentic Belgian beer drinking experiences, head to A la Mort Subite whose name itself takes you back to decades. This name is very well-known in Brussels and this pub has been around since 1928, offering beer with the same name. Today, they continue to serve traditional beers with original 1928 decorations in the background – probably the best place to try out the fermented Gueuze beers while you are in the city.
Brussels Nightlife – City Nightclubs
Brussels nightlife also centers on nightclubs. Many famous international DJs can be found spinning their house, jungle or techno music especially at Le Fuse, which is quite similar to the clubs you can find in Rotterdam.
Bazaar is a bigger nightclub in Brussels, which also doubles as a restaurant and can be found in Les Marolles, the center of the old town. With its vibrant colors and fun atmosphere, it is a great place to be. Keep in mind that it is closed on Sundays and Mondays, though.
