Wiluna is a small town in the western region of Australia. It is located on the edges of a desert and acts as the gateway for Gunbarrel Highway and Canning Stock Route. The town of Wiluna is famous for the huge number of mines, located in and around this town. Numbers of workers enter the city regularly to work in various mines. Most of them live in the neighboring towns but come here to earn money.

The Gold Mine of Wiluna is the nearest to this city and is situated around 3 kilometers away. It was August 2007 when this famous mine was shut down by Apex Minerals, its owner. The major reason was refurbishment and it opened again in November 2008. The owners’ target is to produce around 1 million tones of gold every year.

Wiluna is the town which has the longest railway line connected to Perth –made by the Australian Government to promote business between the two cities.

Wiluna gained national recognition when Michael Jeffery was made the Governor General of Australia. Jeffery was born in Wiluna in 1937. After being elected he visited his home town and criticized the deteriorating condition of the educational institutes. This was when a new primary school with the best possible facilities was inaugurated in Wiluna.

The town of Wiluna experiences hot climate with dry atmosphere. The town receives 255 mm of rainfall annually. The maximum temperature can rise to 19 degree Celsius in July and 38 degree Celsius in January.
