The city of Luanda is one of those cities on this planet which have been hit by war since recent years. Although last many years haven’t resulted into actual wars for the city of Luanda but the turmoil caused by old wars are still visible in the city. Major reconstruction work has been started in the city of Luanda almost after 40 years of ignorance by the government. Soon you will find the city of Luanda to be like most of the other metros.

The spelling Loanda was used by the African population of this country. The word Loanda means flat land. The current city of today was a small village in those days with most of the locals living in houses which were called as libatas during those years.

The first foreign entry to the city of Luanda was of King D. Sebastião who landed on the ports of Luanda with around 7 ships that were carrying around 400 soldiers and their families. It was early 1575 when King D. Sebastião had landed on the land on which today the city of Luanda is situated. The major reason why this fleet had landed on this land was the multiple silver mines of those days.

It was from the year 1950 when the population of Luanda City took exponential growth and touched 200000 inhabitants very soon. Around 70 percent of this population was black. The very famous National Bank of Angola was built during this time itself. The bank is famous not only for its services but also for the unique architecture of the building in which it runs.

As of now the population of Luanda City is around 4 million inhabitants and this city is the most important city for the country of Angola. Multiple restaurants, markets, hotels, and bars have popped up in the city of Luanda and in last few years, the city has experienced huge economical growth.
