Poker Strategy - basic guide about how to play poker

Introduction: There is much written about strategy. Usually, you should play quite a bit before you get much into poker strategy. The initial and most important step is to figure out which game to play. For beginners who want to learn the value of cards, 7 Card Stud is usually the way to go. When you go to Las Vegas, there are usually enough other people around that haven't played much before, so there is some great beginners' tables around. The tables are friendly so just sit down and relax at all times, that usually helps your play.

If you want to jump right into Texas Hold'em, play something I call Texas Fold'em for a while. Look at the cards being dealt and always throw them away for some time until you get a feel for the strength of cards. Just memorize your hands and imagine you were playing.

Some early mistakes in poker:

1. Don't be fooled, if you see that your 92 off suit would have won, that doesn't make it a good hand for the next game.

2. Play your odds, if you have put money down on the table and the flop leaves you with very little outs, do not pay more to lose in the end.

3. Beginners like to draw on every hand, which gets you lucky sometimes, but in the long run you lose for sure.

4. Don't start out your game by bluffing a lot. Read your players first

5. Don't show your hands unless you have to

6. Practice a little before you go. Poker is great and there are many places to play poker even online including our partner Bugsy's Club.

What's BugsysClub:

It's basically an online poker site that allows you to play for free as well as for money. They have some great promotions available where you can win cars, travel voucher and naturally lots of money. If you need experts to teach you about how to play poker the right way just sign up for their PokerSchoolOnline, as seen on the left banner. I am a member myself and have been active there for quite some time.
