I've stayed at the Vayakorn on several occasions. It's central to downtown, but it's still far enough away that you won't be disturbed. The rooms are very clean, and the price is quite reasonable.

I did not stay in Mali Namphu myself, but heard that it costs 30-35$, it is quite in a central place and the staff is pretty good but there is room for improvement concerning the conditions.

I havent been yet to that places, but what i found, was that the Mali Namphu Guest House, isnt as good as many people say.
