Winchester Mystery House
According to a legend, Sarah Winchester, the heiress of Winchester Rifle, was so afraid of being cursed by the ghosts of men killed by Winchester guns that she thought to let the construction continue as long as time permitted to keep the ghosts at bay. As a result of this extended construction period (38 years!), the house was made so amazing that people started coming over to see it. It now has mazes, stairs that end abruptly, secret passages and haunted pass ways. Mansion Tour: $26, Behind-The-Scenes Tour: $23, Grand Estate Tour $31, tours available everyday from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. Visit www.americacarrental.com & Rent a car in San Jose and discover the beautiful place at your leisure.

This sounds very much like Stephen King's Rose Red.... except there the house sort of built itself....would be cool to see the 'real' thing.

I have heared about it, but am not sure why she had it built hor such a long time? Can a house not be haunted until it is fully built and finished? Are ghosts so pretencious?
