Hoe to save money in Central America when traveling?
1. Use Public Transport: Public transport is very cheap and usually very efficient. Local buses, especially ones that aren't direct, cost only a few dollars. They may be slow and crowded but they are cheap!
2. Mercados: Although eating out is cheap in Central America, it makes sense to shop at the markets for your food to take on day trips or prepare at your hostel. Fruit costs just pennies.
3. Drink Less: Beer is more expensive than food here. Cut down your drinking or drink the local beer.

It is also good, to fly to Mexico City, if your destination is a country bordering Mexico, flights to Mexico City tend to be cheaper. And book your ticket as much in advance as possible!

Avoid shopping malls and pricy restaurants, buy souvenirs from local craftsmen and eat street food or buy food on the market.

Be careful with pickpockets on markets, tourist places and large cities, that's hell of a way to save money! :D

am trying to see if there's a better (cheaper) way I can do this, maybe go from maybe go from Belize to San Ignacio.Any suggestions/help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Use taxis and take internal flights on great bargains
Costa Rica and Belize are rather expensive
Mexico,Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala offer great bargains for budgeted travellers
