Well, it is not rocket science. If we take Travelgrove as an example:

1. Go to Travelgrove.com.
2. Introduce your travel data: departure city, destination, departure date, return date.
3. Hit search.
4. Choose the flight you want on the result page and hit select/go.
5. You arrive to the partner's page where you can book the flight.
6. Introduce the required personal and credit cardinformation they require.
7. You might have to check the 'Terms and conditions' agreement checkbox.
8. Hit BOOK.
9. Enojy your flight! :)

I would add that Travelgrove is a meta-search where you get all the results in one list. In the case of classic search engine, like Metafares.com, you have to introduce your travel details and check from among the featured providers the ones you want to search.

Then if you hit 'search', the result pages of the merchants you checked previously will open in separate windows.
