Some nice days in Kairouan, Tunisia

Kairouan is a controversial city. It's the place of a famous mosque, nearly as famous as Mekka. The inner city consist out of small ways, still showing its medieval style and way of living. There're nice beduin houses and small shops, like in a film about medieval times.
But you should always be careful where you go and with whom! Never accept an offer by a strnger to guide you through the town. And if you do that, talk about the price before and always be aware of, that these guys will guide you through a mass of local shops and carpet store. Don't let yourself be bribed by the kindness of these guys. If you dont want to go to shops, they'll get angry and insulting.
The rest of the town is dirty and spoiled, with a lot of people hanging around, bagging and just doing nothing.
From the cultural side you can go there, but altogether don't tale yourself too much time for that place.

Tunis Sights

Tunisia - overviewAnother major tourist attraction is the National Bardo Museum which houses one of the world's greatest collections of Roman mosaics. The museum contains an impressive collection of archaeological artifacts from different eras in Tunisia’s rich history. If you are looking for something unique or bizarre, visit the Catacombs under the San Souis Church near Carthage. The cathedral boasts 240 well preserved funerary galleries that make for an interesting and historically enriching visit. Perhaps the greatest attraction the city can offer is not within the city walls itself. Sixteen kilometers north of the city gates lie the ruins of... Read more »
