Sankt Petersburg liegt im Nordwesten Russlands und wurde 1703 gegründet von Peter dem Großen. Sankt Petersburg ist die zweit größte Stadt Russlands nach Moskau. Vom 18. Bis ins 20. Jahrhundert war die Stadt die Hauptstadt Russlands. Sankt Petersburg hat ca. 4 581 854 Einwohner. Sankt Petersburg und Hamburg führen seit 1957 die erste deutsch-sowjetische und erste deutsch-russische Städtepartnerschaft.
Kultur, Geschichte und Sehenswürdigkeiten
In Sankt Petersburg gibt es den ehernen Reiter, das ist ein Andenken an Peter den Großen. In der Stadt gibt es viel Literatur, Musik und Theater. Es gibt rund 40 Theater in Sankt Petersburg. Das Mariinski- Theater ist eins der berühmtesten Theater in der Stadt. Dieses Theater ist die Heimat des Balletts. Das Alexandra Theater wurde für die Zarin Elisabeth der ersten 1756 erbaut. In Sankt Petersburg sind die berühmtesten Ballettschulen der Welt, wie die Waganowa-Ballettakademie, die 1738 gegründet wurde. In der Stadt wird sehr viel Schach gespielt. Dann gibt es das Puschkin-Denkmal in Sankt Petersburg. Ungefär 250 Museen gibt es in der Stadt. Es gibt einen großen Palast, den Winterpalast. Im Inneren des Palastes gibt es ca. 2,7 Millionen Kunstausstellungsstücke. Es gibt eine Oper und die große Sankt Petersburger Phillharmonie.
Sport und Freizeit
Der Bekannteste Sportverein in Sankt Petersburg ist der Fußballverein Zenit Sankt Petersburg. Die Saison 2007 war der Verein erstmals Russischer Meister. Im Spieljahr 2007/2008 gewann der Verein den UEFA CUP. Der Eishockeyverein SKA Sankst Petersburg spielt jetzt in der Kontinentalen Hockey-Liga.
Verkehr
Es gibt Seeschifffahrten, Binnenschifffahrten, Eisenbahnen, Busse und S-Bahnen. Aber viele Leute laufen auch oder fahren mit dem Fahrrad durch die Stadt.
