In our way to Sibiu we remembered that Hunedoara is well-known because it has a castle built in the 13th century so we decided to stop in this city and search for the castle.

You have to know that in Romania to find anything famous is a true adventure... it's harder to find a popular sight than an unknown small village:P

So after a little bit of detour and wandering around we arrived to the castle (in hungarian it's called Vajdahunyadi Var). It's huge and beautiful and it is in good condition so it's worth to see.

Hunedoara Sights

The city’s rich history still speaks through the walls of the old buildings mainly located downtown, living proofs of the importance of this city centuries ago. Religion has always been a power in any society and as a consequence one can still admire in Hunedoara several old churches like the fifteen century Saint Nicholas Church or the seventeen century Reformed Church. The Saint Nicholas Church was built after 1458, when Matei Corvin allowed the Serbians and the Wallachians to build their own church on the place of a destroyed one in 1450, at the initiative of the catholic monk Capistrano. In 1634 a rectangular narthex was added and... Read more »
