Rome requires much time, Italy

Rome is really great. Sometimes a bit crowded in the season, but if you know the city, you can always find lovely places, bars and restaurants. I have discovered some very nice narrow streets, not crowded, only locals were there with their pictoresque old houses. If you want to see Rome and not only run through it, you will need time, really. Getting from one place to the other may not always be easy because there are so many tourists. But not only that, there are very many things you must see and you can enjoy them only if you spent some time at each.
Roman history, of course is still ruling the modern city, basically, this is why you come to Rome so take your time.
