I guess most tourists are doing the same thing when they first visit Rome. It's a pain, but then Rome is so amazing that you just don't mind. The first day, we started out by taking the bus to downtown. I guess the best location to start out is Piazza Venezia from where you can get to all important sites rather quickly. I know most of you will raise a million "but, but, buts"... ok important are the Forum Romanum, Colosseum, Pantheon etc..

Anyhow, our first stop was Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most beautiful churches in Rome with a fantastic ceiling. It's apparently the first Maria-church out there.

Furthermore, we headed down to the Colosseum, but then the line was so long that I felt like just walking around there would be good enough. I have been inside a few times, and really the beauty of the building is best seen from the outside. To me it was much more important to spend some time inside the Forum Romanum. It's sad that all of these buildings were used as quarries in the past. How dare they use those awesome buildings to build up the new Rome... unreal!

We spend about 3 hours at the Forum Romanum. It was just perfect, with nice weather and some really nice relaxing time. Take a look at the pics to see what I mean.

Afterwards we headed over to the Pantheon to spend some time with my sis and to go visit Piazza Navona. I think this may be the square that was rebuilt in either Caesar's Palace or the Venetian, I better check my pics.

Unfortunately, it was a holiday in Rome, so that the Pantheon was closed, but the Pantheon is naturally a place that you always come back to, simply because it's so central and of course fascinating. At night we headed home and my brother in law went to buy some Pizza with me just down the road from where they live... incredible Pizza, you really need to try some really good Roman Pizza, it's soooo different - yummies...
