My birthday party was very nice. Lots of fun indeed and I got pretty wasted. We stayed up until 6am and I was pretty dead the next day. The night after, I had to decide whether to drive back to Stuttgart with my friends or whether to stay in Ravensburg with Irina. I guess I decided to stay, which is kind of stupid, considering that this forced me to get up at 6am the next day. Sandy picked me up at the train station however, which was very nice and it saved me a ton of inconvenient luggage lifting and pulling (my suite case wheels are broken).

I was sitting next to a very nice lady who was originally from South Carolina and now lives in Germany. We had a long good talk and the flight was not boring at all. Delta Air was disappointing again, I had not flown them for about 5 years and the service sucked and so did the food. One lady was kind of nice though, so that's at least something. My fellow traveler explained to me that this was because a lot of the stewardesses on US airlines had been there for too long and because of their seniority they were always safe not to lose their jobs, so they didn't try hard anymore. It made sense because the only nice one was the only young one. Eitherway, the food was bad, my Pizza was half way raw and the toilet had napkins and paper all over the floor.

Anyhow, once in Atlanta I couldn't wait to get out. I always get surprised by customer service and friendliness in the US. In Germany I called Delta as well as Expedia a few times to change my flight, which had a silly one night stop over and they all told me that there was no way they would do it. Once in the US, …. No Problem … 'Ok… emm we'll make an exception, but you owe me big time' … the lady smiles at me and the other one tells me that I have to take her colleague out for dinner now. It was a joke of course, but the way they handled this, made me feel very comfortable. I did end up paying $25, but this is nothing considering the trouble of renting a car, finding a hotel and losing one day of my trip.

So far so good… I will not find a place where I can have a beer and will check in tomorrow. I am hoping to go out for a quick breakfast or lunch and then go for a walk at the beach. We'll see…

Atlanta History

Atlanta, GA, United StatesWhen the American Civil War erupted, Atlanta was in a position of regional importance with four rail lines. The city's population was 10,000, with iron foundries, mills, warehouses, carriage and wheelwright shops. Soon the city became the supply and shipping center of the Confederacy. In July 1864 the war came to Atlanta. Atlanta surrendered on September 2 after a series of bloody battles and a month long siege. While the city was still smoldering Atlantans started the rebuilding. This spirit made Atlanta the hub of Southeastern commerce and the confidence for a stronger Atlanta. From the end of the war through the 1830's, the city... Read more »
