Reviews > Africa > Egypt > Gizeh > What to know about the Kheops Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of Gizeh, is one of the seven wonders, the oldest and still the only one that survived the passage of time. Until the Eiffel Tower was built, this monument was the highest in the world for 43 centuries. Initially had a height of 146 m, but today has only 138 m. The bottom side has a length of 227 m and comprises 2521000 cubic meters of stone.
The building has an amazing length being built in the year 2 560 before Christ by the pharaoh Khufu and served as grave. To build the piramid there worked 100000 people and lasted 20 years. The pyramid was built with an astonishing accuracy, the largest error between side lengths is less than 0.1%. The edifice was built at an angle of 54 degrees and 54 minutes, and each face is perfectly oriented to a point.
In the last years, inside were found besides the sarcophagus room, 3 more rooms. At the first discovery of the sarcophagus, it was empty.
