Ski Cooper also referred to as “the Coop” by the connoisseurs is situated about 20 miles south of Vail, close to Copper Mountain, in the San Isabel National Forest.

How to get there? If you are in Denver, just take I-70 west to Exit 195 at Copper Mountain Resort then go south on Highway 91 to Leadville. After turning right on Highway 24, on the north side of Leadville, there are more 9 mile to go to the top of Fremont Pass.

Not an expensive or big resort, Ski Cooper, due to its altitude, provides incredible white snow mountain scenery. This is not a new resort, it was opened in 1942 and it was first home to the 10th Mountain Division Special Forces that was learning on these slopes how to fight in the Alps during World War II.

Just another reason for you to bring your family along; you will not regret it, as Ski Cooper has everything a perfect holiday needs: stunning views of the Colorado’s peaks, skiing on the oldest skiing slopes in Colorado and of course a lot of fun and entertainment.

When you are done with the skiing for the day, don’t hesitate to go down and visit Leadville. You will be gratified, as the resort offers a great deal of opportunities to spend your free time in an enjoyable manner: visit the old Victorian mine, see the exhibitions that museums offer, go shopping or just sit and enjoy the view on a terrace of many restaurants of the resort. Not only will you find 26 runs, but also a base elevation of 10,500 feet with a vertical drop of 1,200 feet that you will surely want to try.

This resort suits best families with children as the ski slopes are gentle and kind and kids have many privileges, such as full-day tickets. In the future, if they like to get in the core of skiing they will be able to do it under trained supervision in the Children's Center, attending the classes of the Children's Ski School.

Snowcat tours are here to be taken advantage of, from mid-December to early April, so why not take a chance? And if you are an expert, do not miss the Snowcat Tours on the Chicago Ridge, it is breathtaking! Skiing is just as extensive. Everybody from novice to intermediate and to expert can find a place to ski among the 26 trails that extend on 400 skiable acres.

The Piney Creek Nordic Center seems perfect for all categories of skiers with its 24 km of skating tracks. Ski Cooper resort is not only for the skiers, many other snow enthusiasts can enjoy their time here: telemarkers, Cross-country Skiers, Snowboarders and Snowmobilers. Whether you cross-country ski or decide to drive a snowmobile and a snow cat you will no doubt be satisfied with the quality of the tracks and slopes that vary from 3,000 to 10,000 feet in length with vertical drops up to 1,400 feet per run.

Don’t worry if you forgot your equipment home, there are many skis, snowboards, gear & more to be rent in the resort. In group or alone you can improve your techniques during the ski lessons that many experienced instructors can provide for all kinds of skiers, be it beginners or first timers.

Recreation does not limit only to snow sports like Cross country, snowmobiling, ice skating, backcountry snowcat tours, tourists can chose to go sleigh riding or they can swim and tube in the hotels of the resort.

Everything is to be found here, you only need time to take pleasure in all the possibilities that Ski Cooper resort lavishly offers.

Vail Sights

Vail, CO, United StatesDue to their proximity and their common past, Vail and Beaver Creek resort usually come in the same pack.(Beaver Creek is a distinct entity, but most tourist guides present the two resorts as a whole). Beaver Creek is home to Birds Of Prey World Cup and it is part of a village-to-village ski system that links together Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Arrow Villages.
