Fort San Pedro: My Many Visits

- This is a story of my many visits in Fort San Pedro.

First Visit:

I remember when I was a kid, my parents decided to go to Fort San Pedro and have a visit there. So they tagged me along, that was the first time I saw my parents so sweet, like a date or something. I never expected that I would ever see them in that mood and acting like they were boyfriend-girlfriend. I think I was in gradeschool back then, my sisters were not yet born. All I can remember with Fort is the green grass, then the stairs going on top to see the view of some parts of the city. Not really that high view but just limited. Then, when it's time we went out with my parents, I saw a guy (muslim) quarrelling with another guy... I overheard that he is calling up a back up, his brothers... that was the first time I have a glimpse of having a guy (muslim) going into a brawl. That day I realized that Muslims do know how to value brotherhood, they always have back ups.

Second Visit:

I joined the city tour that were intended for first year college students a program of the student government. I was second year back then, when I join. I wanted to join the trip because I don't know the different spots or museums located within the city and I hate to admit I became a stranger to my own beloved city. I went together with other first year students, and we visited the place. It was not fun, Fort San Pedro looked the same to me, there is just an added feature the souvenier shop and the singing guy and kid...and ofcourse looking at the canons, going to the stairs looking at parts of the city. That's about it.

Third Visit:

It was like few days/weeks when my husband arrived here in the Philippines. I decided to bring him to Fort San Pedro, and look at the scenery of the Fort. So there we are, we were paying the entrance fee and then the woman gave us a brochure and then we went inside took some pictures of each other and climb up the stairs and we end up getting inside the museum where a replica of an old Spanish ship was made plus the items that were retrieved from that ship. The name of the ship that was San Diego (99% sure). It was a huge ship that carried lots of stuff like barrel of wine or maybe rhum, sacks of goods, porcelains, chinaware etc. The guide in that museum is the guard himself. He discussed to us about the ship, the history, etc. Then after that tour inside the museum, we took some pictures and went out.

Fourth Visit:

My students, with my hubby and I went for a field trip. Same thing happened when we went together with my husband, the entrance fee but no brochure was given, then the students took pictures, bought some souveniers. We went to the national museum with some old chinaware, and other antique stuff placed inside a glass. We went upstairs, and there the guard was, our tour guide. He discussed same thing he discussed when me and my husband went there.

Fort San Pedro, for the 4 visits I had there still remained a fortress... all are still the same, the stairs, the plants, the green grass etc... There might be some changes though but not with regard to reconstructing the fort, it looks the same with the canons...Fort San Pedro played an important part in the history of Cebu and the Philippines to be exact until now it remained standing.
