Abengourou is one of the fifty-eight departments of Côte d'Ivoire, and also a city in that department, located near the Ghanian border at 7°17′5″N,2°59′2″W. The city is primarily populated by the Agni ethnic group, a branch of the Akan people who migrated to the region from Ghana. The population of Abengourou was estimated to be 105,000 people in 2004.
The name 'Abengourou' stems from the Ashanti expression 'n'pé kro,' which means 'I don't like long discussions.'
