(about Depok, Indonesia, last edited on Nov 02, 2008)

Located somewhere in the western part of Java within the country of Indonesia, the city of Depok has many times been called as the nature reserve for Indonesia. Before the city actually started to grow, Depok was a 4000 hectare of green forest land. Lately only six hectare of green forest land is left but this itself holds immense importance for the city of Depok as this city is situated in the proximity of the most polluted cities of Indonesia namely Bogor and Jakarta.

The closeness to the city of Jakarta has helped the city of Depok to grow quickly on the national level. The number of houses is continuously rising in the city of Depok and many new businesses have been started in last couple of years. All this indicated that how quickly the city of Depok is growing. The fastest growing section in the city of Depok is the region alongside the major road of Depok which is named as Margonda Raya.

The tourism industry has also grown quickly in the city of Depok and this has indirectly helped various other small businesses like those who owe restaurants, bookstores, shopping centers, internet cafes, hospitals, and hotels of course.

The city of Depok also boasts about the nationally famous Universitas Indonesia (famous by the name of UI amongst the locals of the city) which is one of the most famous universities for the country of Indonesia. Many private hostels have popped up in the city of Depok for those students who travel to the city in order to pursue higher studies. This has eased the accommodation problems which students used to face regularly every year. With the influence Universitas Indonesia many other private universities have also been opened in the city of Depok and all this has immensely helped the economy of this city.

The best way to reach the city of Depok is by rail as journey by road could be irritating at times due to presence of heavy traffic. The city of Depok has two major railway stations namely Pondok China and UI station. Both these stations are located near the university campus and hence provide extreme comfort for students who have their homelands in some other neighboring cities.
