(about Washington-Traveltips, DC United States, last edited on Mar 07, 2008)
Population: 571,822
Major Airports: Washington D.C. National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI).
When to Go: Spring is the best time to visit this city as the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, which also makes it the most crowded time of the year and the weather is still rather unpredictable. Summer is typically really hot and humid, congress is in recess so the city quiets down somewhat and you can find the best hotel deals during this time of the year. In fall, the weather stabilizes, congress does reconvene so finding a hotel during the weekday will be difficult. The winters are blistering cold making it hard to venture outdoors, but it does mean no waiting in lines at museums or other major attractions.
Getting There: The Washington D.C. National airport is the most convenient to the city and to northern Virginia. Baltimore Washington International airport is closer to Baltimore and if you'll be visiting Maryland but is quite away off from the city itself. Dulles International airport serves a majority of the international flights When landing in any of these three airports, shuttle service, taxicabs and car rental facilities.
Getting Around: This city has one of the best public transportation in the country, with a great subway system, called Metro (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority) and a Metrobus system, one can avoid driving and renting a car. If you absolutely need to rent a car, be prepared to pay absorbent amounts of money for parking and maneuver around aggressive local drivers.
