Hawaii - travel tips

Population: 1,211,537

Major Airports: Honolulu International Airport - Oahu (HNL), Kahului Airport - Maui (OGG), Kona International Airport - Big Island/Hawaii (KOA), Hilo International Airport - Big Island/Hawaii (ITO), Lihue Airport - Kauai (LIH), Kaunakakai Airport - Molokai (MKK), Lanai Airport - Lanai (LNY).

When to Go: Almost anytime is a good time to go, as always summer would provide for the sunniest, driest time of the year though prices will tend to be higher. For those who do not want it too hot, early summer, April and May and early fall September and October offers a moderate temperature with less visitors during this period, you can find better travel deals. It does tend to rain during the months of November to March. If you want to plan a Hawaiian Christmas vacation the weather will still be warm and there are good odds that it will rain, it doesn't get bitterly cold when it rains, but be prepared to get wet.

Getting There: Air is the primary way of getting to Hawaii and depending on the island you plan to visit dictates which major airport you will land at. Most travels tend to fly into Honolulu International Airport on the island of Oahu and use this airport to take inter-island trips via air to Maui, Kaui and the other islands. An alternative of taking in all the islands after landing in Honolulu International Airport is to hop on cruise typically a 7day excursion.

Getting Around: When you touchdown into the airport taxis or shuttles can take you into town. In Honolulu, once in town there are several means of getting around starting with the BUS. The

BUS is clean, safe and runs a fairly accurate schedule allowing visitors to move around cheaply. Mopeds (low powered motorbikes) are a common site as well as mode of transport in Honolulu and can be rented per day. However, if your not alert or driving through unpaved streets it can get quite dangerous.

On each island the best method of exploring each island to it's fullest is to rent a car. Renting a car can get expensive, but if you plan ahead of time and search several sites for the best deals or book a air, hotel and car package you could end up paying much less.
