(about Valdobbiadene, Italy, last edited on Jan 24, 2008)

Valdobbiadene is one of the greatest producers of prosecco wines and its name is always associated with this type of wine.
Valdobbiadene is in the Veneto region, province of Treviso. Its location on rolling hills at the foot of the mountains and near the Alps makes it perfect for wineries, a great touristic destination for its beautiful scenery and mountain air.

In order to get here from Treviso you take the road to Montebelluna or from Trento to Feltre.

There are many families that run their own wine business and they have got the business going on for generations. Actually the first records of the prosecco wine date back to the 19th century when this wine plant found home here on this rich land. Many studies have been made to get the best possible product and indeed the quality of the wine is unquestionable and recognized throughout the world as one of the best. The climatic factors in Valdobbiadene are also favorable for growing grapes. Although the hills are quite steep and makes land difficult to work, the climate makes winters mild while in summer the soil gets plenty of rainfall.

The landscape is beautiful: picture houses and vineyards intermingle on steep irregular hills and the mountains around.
The care with which the wine is made can be seen in the result. There are hundreds of years of tradition in wine making that has been kept and improved throughout the years and we ca take advantage of all that by drinking a sparkling wine of excellent quality.

If you visit the area you can see the The Prosecco Ring, an area of 10 km comprising villages with an ancient wine tradition around Valdobbiadene. There are no roads but it is really an area worth walking or riding by yourself or with the help of a guide which is the better choice as you will get expert information on the area and its history and you will be pointed out all the places of interest, stop at wineries and you will get details on how they get good grapes harvest and you will also see the wine making process. At the end you’ll get to taste the excellent Valdobbiadene Prosecco D.O.C.

This wine holds the tradition, history and culture of the people living in the Valdobiadene and the surrounding area.

Besides taking long walks and riding on the tracks of these hills there are quite a few activities you can emerge yourself into in this little community. There is a swimming pool where locals usually go to swim, it is not for leisure, sports fields and of course a few restaurants and bars where you can taste the local food.

You can walk the trails of Mount Cesen, part of the Pre-Alps of Treviso and discover the beauty of white or grey rocks of this Regional Reserve. History is on the way as you can still see the ruins of some old houses.

Valdobbiadene is a small community with rich history and tradition set on the backdrop of a beautiful landscape. It is made known worldwide because of the Prosecco wine that has spread the word and people are coming here to see the place where it is made.
