(about Glenwood Springs, CO United States, last edited on Nov 09, 2007)

Right in the heart of the White River National Forest is Sunlight Mountain Resort, an unpretentious year round resort abundant in light powder snow. It is relatively a new resort established in 1996 on the grounds of an old mining town. You can easily get here as it is just 3 hours from Denver Airport. It is a pretty close to Aspen and even closer to Glenwood Springs.

You will certainly love it with its small town and laid back atmosphere, plenty of fun activities and hundreds of acres of terrain suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The terrain does not lack variety; there are mild green slopes, intermediate slopes and black diamond extremes that have the Heathen with a 52 pitch, a steep trail to handle. You can find every type of terrain from steep mountain ridges to broad powder bowls and the most notable thing is that here you can find one of the longest trails. The marvelous view the summit offers is another reason for you to come visit this family-friendly and really affordable resort.

Being situated on National Forest Land the resort is committed to soften its impact on the environment by developing a variety of programs in partnership with the White River National Forest.
Sunlight Mountain Resort has direct access to the White River National Forest backcountry and it provides the best backcountry skiing on the western slope, a fun and comfortable backcountry experience ensured by expert guides that are specialized in Advanced First Aid and Avalanche Safety. Under their supervision you don’t have to worry about much but on following their instructions in pointing out the right terrain for your ability.

So take advantage of the untracked dry powder snow, or the 29 kilometers of free groomed cross-country trails, breathe the fresh air and enjoy the peaceful mountain views.

Among the snow related activities you can choose from are alpine, telemark, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding, but there is another much loved activity to be taken into consideration at the Hot Springs Pool in Glenwood Springs where you can enjoy natural mineral waters. What could be better after a hard day on the slopes than to unwind and relax in the whirlpool, steam room or sauna at the Hot Springs Athletic Club or enjoy a massage from Special Touch Massage?

Besides relaxation you can also haven a lot of fun swimming or trying the waterslides. Kids will definitely love it! There are plenty of facilities like locker rooms, swim wear shops, towel service and swim suit rentals. So you can consider it a perfect place for a family vacation.

Family time is important and Sunlight Mountain is the ideal destination for families looking to create a tradition. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is one of the places to start. With 4,000 square feet of outside decks you will enjoy spectacular views and take photographs that will make any friend or neighbor want to experience the same beauty. You can also visit the caves and see wonderful formations, a visit that will be both entertaining and educational. Discovery Rock can be another fun learning experience for kids who can play in the fossil dig sandbox. Parents can join their little ones in a world formed millions of years ago turned into world-class show cave.

Biking is a favored outdoor activity suitable for all ages. You can choose to ride your bike from different points as there’s a shuttle that will drop you off at the desired destination.
In addition other entertainment during winter time like local music après ski is also to be mentioned.
