Snowbird, UT, United States

(about Snowbird Lodge, UT United States, last edited on Nov 08, 2007)

The mountains, the sun and the snow have made Snowbird famous all over the world. This led to the resort being considered number one ski resort in the U.S. along with Little Cottonwood Canyon neighbor Alta.

No wonder everyone wants to get here sooner or later and you can easily do so. If one day you feel like skiing, you can easily and quickly get to your dream destination, Snowbird which is just 30 miles from Salt Lake International Airport, tucked up in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Hop on a plane and you will be there in no time as there are hundreds of daily domestic and international flights. It is perfect for those with a tight schedule; they can fly and ski on the same day. And besides good links there are other things that put it forward to other destinations like legendary snowfall, bright sunshine, all kinds of accommodations for any budget, great winter activities and above all the perfect location that gets Snowbird plenty of dry, fluffy powder to last until late in spring or even in summer as it happened in the 2004-05 season. It can reach up to great 633 inches. The only inconvenience the snow could bring is that it makes getting to Salt Lake difficult and even risky - that’s in case you decided to stay in the city.

This world-class resort boasts long, continuous, vertical runs, a 125-passenger aerial Tram, granite peaks, a world-renowned Snowbird Mountain School and elegant lodging with luxurious suites. One of the ultra-luxurious places to stay is the Cliff Lodge & Spa featuring easy slope access, a rooftop spa and Jacuzzi, restaurants and bars to spend your time after a tiring day on the slopes. But lodging is not only aimed at the rich, there are plenty of cheaper fully-appointed hotel and condominium units.

Snowbird provides visitors with nonstop fun and relaxation opportunities that are ensured by facilities like outdoor heated pools and spa services. it is bustling with activity and excitement all season long both on the slopes and off. The diverse restaurants and festivals keep the connection with the recreational activities we are used to back home, but here you will find them in a different surrounding. There’s also a pedestrian village featuring restaurants, lounges, deli market, day care, retail shops and a first-class conference center.

It’s the perfect place to disconnect - and reconnect with family and friends as it also focuses on families. It’s a ski adventure that brings families closer together creating memories that will never melt away.

Backing up these memories are the excellent facilities provided. Among them is the 125-passenger Aerial Tram that takes skiers and mountain rescue crews from 8,100 feet to 11,000 feet in about 8 minutes and then they can enjoy their ride down blues, blacks, cat tracks, and steep bowls. It can get a bit crowded especially in the morning but it is definitely worth rubbing shoulders with the other skiers as the spectacular scenery  you’ll pass by will make you forget about the inconvenience. As you reach the top of 11,000-foot Hidden Peak the scenery will fade away in thick clouds.

A fun ride for beginners is the 2.5-mile blue-rated Chip's Run off the top of Hidden Peak, but you have to stay on your track if you want to keep in fun as it intersects a grid steeper black runs.

With 4,700 acres of skiable terrain, the new high-speed quad chairlift, storm monitoring and activities suitable for the summer season, luxurious suites and world-class resort, Snowbird makes one of North America's top-rated resorts.
