Copper Mountain, CO, US

(about Copper Mountain, CO United States, last edited on Sep 04, 2007)

Not far from Denver International Airport in Summit County is the beautiful Copper Mountain resort. It is about an hour and half outside of Denver and easy access to the resort is guaranteed by shuttles and flights.

What makes Copper Mountain different from the other ski resorts is that it is the largest resort in Summit County when measured by area and it is less crowded. Probably because it is more seen as a favorite destination of the locals and even if people from other states do come here their number is not as great as to feel like you are in a overrun resort. This can only be a positive point for all those who think of coming here. Staying in line is not an issue and you can save precious time and spend it on the slopes instead of staying in line which can often be stressful. You won’t have to rub shoulders with the other skiers as there’s plenty of room for everyone.

Not being a crowded place does not mean that it lacks opportunities of having fun, on the contrary there’s a lot to do around and you definitely won’t get bored. Of course skiing is the main activity but there are plenty of other activities like snow tubing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, riding a horse drawn sleigh through the White River National Forest or fishing. As for relaxation you can go swimming in the pool at the Athletic Club or have a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants or if you want to go for something traditional you can have a meal in an authentic 18th century miner's tent.

Lodging is perfect, from condominiums to hotel rooms you can certainly find something to suit your budget and what is best is that they are all pretty close to the village activities.

Entertainment facilities are also close by and with the last years’ development the choices for having fun have multiplied. You can see new restaurants, shops, and bars completing the old ones.
Skiing conditions have improved too with the new lift system being upgraded. But skiing has always been a pleasure here because of the variety of naturally separated terrain thus excluding level mixing. Each skier can easily depict his side of the mountain as it is divided like this: beginner slopes on the western side of the mountain, intermediate slopes in the center and expert terrain on the eastern side. The expert bowls here are highly appreciated being just as good as those in Vail.

Copper Mountain is a year round resort and summer is just as appreciated as winter and it offers just as many outdoor activities. It is actually considered a base camp for all summer activities. You can consider hiking as there is easy access to several 14,000 foot peaks that will provide beautiful panoramas, then there’s fishing, golf, mountain biking, whitewater rafting and many other fun and unique activities.

If you feel like you haven’t had enough then you can explore the nearby attractions, too. Silverthorne is just a 12 minute drive and can make a good base for your stay as lodging is cheaper and there are also entertaining possibilities. Vail is a bit further but it can still be considered close just like the other resorts like Breckenridge and Beaver Creek. The fun part is that being so close to each other you can visit and try the slopes of all these resorts making your vacation richer and coming home satisfied that you have visited them all. Of course you can choose to stay in the cheapest one and have fun in the one you like best, in case your budget is low.

Having the option to get a cheap deal, bringing your children with you would be a very good idea, it won’t cost you much extra and they will have a lot of fun as a variety of indoor and outdoor activities awaits them at Belly Button Bakery and Belly Button Bump.

Copper Mountain is a unique place in Colorado, a location that gives you the freedom to find yourself, both mind and body, a place that makes you feel like you are in a real mountain village, one that its main purpose is not only touristic.
