(about Parksville, BC Canada, last edited on Nov 23, 2007)

Established in 1910 by the first settler named Nelson Parks whose name it bear, Parksville is a popular beach destination for both singles and families tourism being the cornerstone of the local economy completing the traditional ones like fishing and forestry.

All those who appreciate great outdoors and a nice relaxing getaway will find here exactly what they are looking for, all in a beautiful setting with wonderful ocean vistas from every viewpoint and snow-capped mountains views. History buffs will also find here some historic sights worth visiting like St. Anne's Church, the History Museum and the petroglyphs along Englishman River.

You can’t really talk about Parksville without mentioning its twin resort Qualicum Beach. They have a lot in common and are closely related being connected by country-club developments and marinas. Parksville is linked to Qualicum Beach by a waterfront strip full of touristic facilities.

Being close to the most popular beaches on Vancouver Island the resorts can be added to the list and they definitely have a charm of their own. Maybe this is why people have kept coming to enjoy over and over the opportunities they offer. You may stamp on them by accident, in case you have not heard about them, while you are on your way to or from Victoria or Tofino or maybe you will discover them while you are vacationing on other Vancouver Island resorts. Any way you happen to discover these charming resorts they will definitely make an impression and you will keep coming back.

The two resorts are organized differently this way you can choose the type you like best. If you prefer to have all amenities gathered around a centre then Qualicum Beach is the answer, if you’d rather have a strip to walk along then Parksville meets your needs. One thing is sure you will be close to the beach in either resorts and easy access is guaranteed.

Preferences in beaches can be debatable, but probably the best beaches are preserved in Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park that offers more than just laying around. There are bird-watching sites, numerous trails and a campground all close to Parksville's town center. Community Park is also close to the centre and with its Lions' Venture Playground and Waterpark attracts many outdoor activity enthusiasts.

With its mild climate, clean and well supervised parks and central location Parksville makes for one of the most loved family destinations and a starting point for visiting the Vancouver Island area. You have everything in one place the beach and the mountains in an enchanting combination. The recreational activities are endless as there are also six B.C. provincial parks to complete the activities offered by the resort.

Swimming is the favored activity as the water is warmed by the sand when the tide comes back in, but golf is also among the favorites. Fishing is by all means sought by anglers who come from all around for exciting saltwater and freshwater fishing. Other activities include coastal wildlife viewing and strolling and the best thing is that you can have them all year long. Parksville is also home to the Canadian Open Sand Sculpture Competition and a month long beach festival.

Additional strolling can be done at Milner Gardens and Woodland on 24 hectares of planted gardens. The view of the many kinds of flowers makes a visit here worthwhile.

One thing is sure if you happen to be in Parksville, you will experience something new, something marvelous, a beach destination like no other.
