(about Val Di Fassa, Italy, last edited on Nov 23, 2007)
Located in the Trentino County next to the border with Alto Adige County, Val di Fassa is a valley comprising many mountain resorts: Canazei, Campitello, Mazzin, Pera, Pozza di FAssa, Vigo di Fassa,Soraga and Moena. These are bigger villages and there are some smaller ones like: Someda, Meida, Vallonga, Monzon, Roncu, Campestrin and Fontanazzo.
In this valley you can meet people renowned for their antique craftsmanship handed on from generation to generation. You can discover the history, culture and language of the old Ladin people at the Ladin Cultural Institute in San Giovanni or mingle with the locals and get a first hand knowledge of their ancient traditions and culture; taste the flavors of the Ladin cookery in one of the mountain huts while enjoying the wonderful panorama; practice the sport you like in one of the many sports facilities as you can choose from golf, swimming, mountain biking, walking in an untouched nature and many more.
Ladin language is still spoken in the area, alongside German and Italian.
Summer in Val di Fassa is a paradise for sport lovers as for those who prefer discovering the mountain during relaxing walks. In winter Val di Fassa is transformed into fascinating skiing country guaranteed to enchant every skier from dawn to dusk, to the last lingering glow of sunset.
You can discover the area by yourself or with the help of the alpine tour guides who know the mountains very well and who will be happy to introduce you to the wonders of the Dolomites, guide you on equipped mountaineering tracks and natural sightseeing excursions. They can also teach you or assist you in outdoor rock climbing courses.
Val di Fassa resorts are ideal for family holidays as children can have a lot of fun in the resorts of the valley as there are special activities designed for them: tales, sports, entertainments, puppets and creativity workshops.
There are plenty of accommodation facilities in all the resorts but what you should pay attention to is that you must check the availability of linen, the presence of a parking space and the type of heating. Moreover you should not limit yourself to a verbal agreement over the telephone but to ask for a written communication in which the precise terms are specified. That is: date of arrival, date of departure, number of persons, extra charges such as heating, hot water, electricity and gas and parking in case you plan to come by car.
You will be sure that your apartment is booked only after you have paid a third of the rent’s price.
To be more sure ask for a photo of the residence and its location.
Val di Fassa is prepared for families with children and almost every resort has something for the kids. Because most villages have small ski areas for kids parents have nothing to worry about. There are children`s ski area and some special places. In Canazei there’s Kinderland, in Moena Babylandia, in Vigo di Fassa Kinder Park.
The region has been kept as virgin as possible and even if during the last years the villages have developed for touristic purposes it has still been able to maintain its original atmosphere.
