Burns Lake, BC, Canada

(about Burns Lake, BC Canada, last edited on Oct 02, 2007)

Burns Lake is set in the heart of the Lakes District in the centre of British Columbia. Although it is a small community it has a lot to offer for recreational purposes being surrounded by lakes forests and parks. You can realize that the town has some connection with lakes since its name is Burns Lake.

But you might wonder if the first part of its name has anything to with the settlement too. Well it has, as the legend says that after the first people settled here there was a big fire that destroyed everything around.

At first the land did not attract many people to settle due to its isolation, but there were some who saw it as a good opportunity to start a new life despite the difficulties. There was not much connection to the outside world, no roads just a railway to bring the necessary supplies.

But the surrounding area was not bad at all and it gave the little settlement the possibility to develop into a modern community that it is today. Of course you can’t expect to see any skyscrapers, but prosperity is to be seen in all the amenities. A lot has changed since its humble beginnings and with so many people wanting to visit the area there are plenty of modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable and your arrival safe and pleasurable providing chartered air services. This way you can consider Burns Lake as the perfect starting point for adventure in wilderness.

And you can start with B.C.'s largest Provincial Park called Tweedsmuir, an unspoiled place accessed only by air, water or foot, a true wilderness paradise.

The main supplier of the village’s prosperity is its economy based on forestry, farming, and tourism all helped by the wonderful location: in centre of nature and in the centre of the county.

From a touristic point of view Burns Lake ranks as one of the best supplier of outdoor activities among which without any doubt, fishing is king. With so many lakes around, more than a thousand no fisherman can complain as this is heaven for them. They can pride to have caught the largest char and rainbow trout in the area and stories can go on. You will never get bored of fishing here as you can move from one lake to another and try new experiences.

If you’re not a fishing enthusiast, you can still benefit from this rich fishing land and taste some of the freshest fish even if you don’t catch it. With so much fish around to eat people in the area must be really healthy.

But a healthy body needs a healthy spirit so the locals thought of having plenty of entertainment around to keep them happy. There are plenty of events for recreation to be enjoyed both by locals and tourists. There’s "ColdSmoke" Snowmobile Drag Races and Ice Races, 50th Annual Lakes District Festival of the Arts in March, Annual Snowmobile Poker Ride in February, Figure Skating Pop Concert, Annual Rotary Radio Auction in November, Annual Crosscountry Ski Events held during the winter months and of course WinterFest in the beginning of February.

The long list of events held throughout the year is a proof that there’s a lot of action going on in this little community that is definitely worth a visit if you’re an outdoor enthusiast.
