Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, UT, US

(about Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, UT United States, last edited on Sep 18, 2007)

Operated since 1939, Beaver Mountain is Utah's Northern Most Ski Resort, located east of Logan, in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Its northern position makes it colder than the other ski resorts but it is also favorable for morning sun and here the annual snowfall reaches 400 inches. Its position also makes it the perfect winter destination for skiers looking to avoid crowded, over-developed resorts, this one having a personal touch to its 664 skiable acres and well-maintained slopes with 22 runs, 3 lifts and a vertical drop of 1,600 feet plus a variety of runs, including everything from gentle greenbacks, to challenging black diamond trails.

Another well appreciated feature is that it has avalanche-free conditions and hardly any wind to make the activities less pleasurable.

This fine small, family owned resort, a legend in family corporation, is Utah’s hidden gem known mostly by those who have been here. This does not mean few people know about it, it means that it did not needed much publicity as it is already appreciated and the secret to its success is that being family owned everything is done to provide excellent, personal service to each skier.

It all began with a man and his wife’s dream to make a fun recreational place where to spend their winters. At first there was only a cable tow, no water and no road into Beaver making it hard for skiers to walk in from the highway. After some efforts roads, a new rope tow, T-bar and water were obtained and in 1949 a 1,000 foot rope tow was made operational for the public. Some people started to come but there was only a warming lodge. But things started to progress after Harold and Luella Seeholzer formed a corporation. A platter-type lift was installed with a capacity of 600 skiers per hour leading to the opening five new trails. After a while a 4,600 foot double chair lift with a capacity of 900 per hour called 'Harry's Dream' was installed in 1969. It ran from the bottom to the very top of Beaver Mountain.

The Seeholzer’s tradition went on and Beaver Mountain is still completely family owned, each person being in charge with a different task, but it is Ted Seeholzer that has the last say on the volunteer ski patrol of over 85 people and a ski school of about 60 people while Marge is in charge of all ticket sales and other things.

In 1998 the already all-around ski resort became a snowboard resort too as the boss decided to allow snow boards on Little Beaver. The activity became so popular that first Boarder-Cross Race was held on Little Beaver. Its lifts are open to snowboarders today, offering some of the best terrain around. An as if that would not be enough, Beaver Mountain has recently cleared a new terrain park Its terrain varies from gentle greenbacks to challenging double black diamond trails.

There are other activities around including tubing, riding on numerous tabletops and other winter activities which are among the usual pastimes. Summertime activities are also favoured among those who love Beaver Mountain. Rentals are available for an RV park, campsites, and lodge and yurt facilities.

Beaver Mountain is an all-around alpine resort committed to providing an excellent skiing experience. We invite you to come and discover it and enjoy the warmth of the people and the unhurried lifestyle.

Whatever your style there are outdoor experiences and spectacular natural beauty to make your next vacation truly unforgettable. Absorb the wide range of choices for year-round fun and relaxation that the warm and welcoming spot offers. You can start planning your perfect holiday — one that is sure to create memories that last a lifetime.
