(about Kamloops, BC Canada, last edited on Oct 09, 2007)

British Columbia can pride itself with having Kamloops among its cities as it is the sunniest and friendliest off all with a laid-back atmosphere and cosmopolitan style. It is a city that offers full time adventure, every day lived here can be lived large.

The city itself is the province's fifth-largest city with a population of about 85,000 residents, an economic hub based on forest-products, ranching and farming, attracting a wide variety of events and business opportunities.

Situated at the confluence of the north and south forks of the Thompson River, Kamloops is British Columbia’s friendliest vacation destinations offering endless opportunities to relax, have fun or a bit of outdoor adventure. The western hospitality is at its peak here where even the climate is welcoming giving the visitor the possibility to spend most of the time outdoors choosing from a variety of activities like mountain biking, hangliding, parachuting, hiking, golf, fishing, skiing, wildlife watching and a relatively new game of disc golf which has become increasingly popular being a lot of inexpensive fun. Courses are available for those who want to be initiated in this new game.

No matter when you come there’s something to do for everyone. There are activities for the warm seasons as well as for the cold ones and the panoramic views of mountain ranges are beautiful anytime. And there’s no lack of sporting facilities. From ice arenas to sporting fields every sport has its own ground, so no wander people call Kamloops the Tournament Capital of Canada.

Being a cosmopolitan city it has what it takes for both locals and tourists to have fun but the greatest fun are offered by the intense outdoor adventure in the nearby area that has mountain lakes, rivers, rock bluffs, farmland and a beautiful scenery. In this setting you will find the BC Wildlife Park that spreads out on 50 hectares with a wide diversity of species unequalled in Canada. There are over 65 species of wildlife including birds of prey, great Grizzly Bears, Timber Wolves, moose, snakes and other with which you can interact and find out a lot of information in an interactive way from park interpreters. With the Zippity Zoo Zone Playground on its premises, BC Wildlife Park makes an ideal destination for kids. They can also go to Family Farm Animal Encounters, the new Discovery Centre, and Splash Park and go for a ride on the Wildlife Express.

After a full day of fun they will definitely put Kamloops on the top of their list of favourite destinations. But the list is not over and we have to add that Kamloops has a worldwide reputation in the sport of mountain biking attracting mountain bike enthusiasts from all over the world to the vast terrain for both adventure and leisure bikers. There are approximately 1000 hectares of public cross-country bike trails, enough space for everyone!

Then there’s something for fishing enthusiasts. The 100 lakes in the Kamloops area with a diverse and scenic landscape of mountains, valleys, aromatic forests and sweet grasslands will truly satisfy even those who have seen a few places. You can choose your fishing spot, be it from a kayak, canoe or jet boat you are certain to catch something and the Kamloops trout would be the best catch as it is admired around the world by anglers who appreciate their large size and incredible fighting qualities. In winter the skiing resorts like Sun Peaks Resort offer uncrowded slopes, dog sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country and snowmobile trails.

If you’re looking for a city rich in history and culture, unique shops, galleries and museums, a place with warm people and unhurried lifestyle, a place full of outdoor experiences and spectacular natural beauty we invite you to come and discover Kamloops.
