Nice, France - Sights

The city of Nice is as beautiful as its name and it houses many eponymous attractions.

Promenade des Anglais

The boulevards, avenues and streets of Nice are a pleasure to wander around aimlessly and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. Promenade de Anglais is one of the breathtakingly beautiful promenades, ideal for taking a pleasant evening stroll.

Starting from BELLE EPOQUE, it meanders past hotels and magnificent palaces, museums and splendid buildings and offers a captivating view of the azure Mediterranean Sea.

Musee d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain

Glass corridors connect the different sections of this museum that exhibits avant garde art from France and America, from the swinging sixties to contemporary times.

Yves Klein occupies one entire section of the museum. Other artists whose works have found a place in this hallowed museum are Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.

Palais Lascaris

This palace is associated with the ancient family of LASCARIS VINTIMILLE of the 13th century. But the magnificent castle was erected not before 17th century.

Meticulously detailed ornamental facades, eighteenth century plaster embellishments and panels are the high points of this architectural beauty.

Naval museum

Inside the BELLANDA TOWER overlooking the sea and offering an enchanting view over vast expanses of the azure Mediterranean, lies the NAVAL MUSEUM, resplendent in its historic glory. On display in this marine museum are objects like engravings, paintings, boats, vessels, scale models, ancient weapons and arms as well as navigational instruments. The TOWER pays a rich tribute to history.

Quai des Etats Unis

This is another beautiful boulevard or walk running side by side the bay of Angels and the golden sun kissed beach. On the other side it is flanked by mansions and luxury hotels.

Vieille Ville

In English it means old town and is redolent of a rich historic past. The narrow cobbled streets, meandering and twisting and turning through the nooks and corners in between open markets, slipping past quaint restaurants and old fashioned buildings covered with brick red tiled roofs lend an old world charm to the pretty little place. It almost feels as if you have been transported to a medieval village.

Other places that might leave you spellbound are MONASTERE DE CIMIEZ, CATHEDRAL ORTHODOX RUSSE SAINT NICOLAS A NICE, MUSEE BEAUX ARTS, MUSEE MATISSE, MUSEE NATIONAL MESSAGE BIBLIQUE MARC CHAGALL, PORT LYMPIA, VIEUXNICE, PARC FLORAL PHENIX and MUSEE DES ART ASIATIQUES.
