Berlin Sightseeing
Berlin is one of the busiest capitals in Europe and still we, visitors must admit that it’s one of the most beautiful ones as well. city on its own is amazing, full of parks; Unequally among the European capitals the 70% of Berlin consists of forest, it's the most visible from a high place, ao that's why you should visit the TV tower (or check my gallery ;-) ). Some of the outstanding advantages of the city is that it is rather cheap and it's so calm and relaxing that a Hungarian man cannot even imagine it; for example summertime you can see more bycicles on the streets than cars. It's fairly funny to see people wearing suits but riding a bycicle. There are so many sights, so many things to see that I could list only a few tips with my favorite places and some pictures my gallery as a sample.
Right on the border of East and West Berlin the Brandenburg Gate used to be the symbol of the separation of the city but it is the symbol of the reunification since the fall of the Wall. It is about 60 m high and it’s decorated with scenes depicting Greek mythology. It stands on the border of the Eastern and Western part of Berlin like a sentinel watching the city; there is a huge place in the front of it filled up with people all the time. Berliners gather there every year and celebrate New Year’s Eve together.
The Alexanderplatz in the center of the former East Berlin is the busiest square I’ve ever seen. After the bombing in the Second World War it was rebuilt and used as a kind of showcase of communist architecture. Two monuments you meet walking on the Alexanderplatz are the Weltzeituhr (World Time Clock) and the Fountain of International Friendship, I think both of them are great symbols of the internationalism and world citizenship.
And of course I cannot forget to mention the Parlament of Germany, the Bundestag/ Reichstag - I founded so important that I posted a separate article and a gallery about it, so keep reading.
