I got home from Romania at around 11:30pm, threw my dirty clothes in the laundry bin and immediately packed for my next trip ... Rome.
Work is work, but enough of that... I had enough of my regular life and just had to escape for a short break to Rome to see my sis and especially to show Mary Rome. We left Ravensburg at around 6:45am and started heading down South. It's always a long drive, but usually also a nice one. You pass Lake Constance, drive through Austria, then drive over the Alpes (San Bernardino) in Switzerland and once you made it over you are already feeling the vacation feeling as the weather is starting to improve. The mountains are beautiful with a lot of water falls, lush green slopes and beautiful little villages.
Once you reach Italy, life again gets more hectic and maybe a little chaotic. You can already tell that you are in Italy from how people drive. As you drive South you come by famous places that are mainly known by their food. Of course Milan is known for many things, but places like Parma, Chianti, Bologna etc all ring a bell. It's an easy drive when you are in Italy and the landscapes are also beautiful especially as you drive over the Apennine mountains with the countless villages built on the hill tops, castles etc. I am always wondering why in Germany most villages are built in the valley and in Italy they are all built highly elevated above the valleys.
After passing Milano, Modena, Bologna, and Firenze you approach some beautiful little towns called Orvieto and then just before Rome, Orte. If you ever drive down, you should stop to see either one of them, they are truly amazing.
Finally, the signs said "Rome", that felt really cool after this long 10 hour drive. Usuall, you can make it in around 8-9 but it was raining like crazy when we drove over the Apennine Mountains :(
I was very happy to be in Rome at last and immediately wanted to stop to buy some hand made Ravioli filled with Ricotta and spinach, but then my sister had already bought it for us - yumm
