Today was great, we finally went to some of the most awesome islands and beaches Thailand has to offer. We booked a boat trip with about 15 other people. This was kind of fun, not because I enjoy running tourism going from one place to another, but it did offer some very extravagant memories. We left at 9am right after breakfast and then headed out past Chicken Island (yes they are really called that), then we blew past Poda Island and then Bamboo beach. Awesome sights really, I am crazy about nice sceneries and paradise beaches J
Our first stop was this amazing lagoon. I think this was probably the most beautiful lagoon I have ever seen. It looked like an amphitheater, there were steep mountains surrounding the dark green and blue waters. The mountains stood like humongous pillars that reached out of the water towards the skies high above protecting the delicate lagoon. With a howl an eagle took off, flew a few circles and then landed somewhere in the tree tops. Anyhow, anything about this stop was mystical and as I think back I get the chills… hmm, or maybe it’s the air con in my room J
Our second stop was a cave (I forgot the name), where some people are living and collect the famous bird nest. They make soup from them. The swallow makes the nests and these guys go and tear them down again… nice. At 100,000 Baht (€2,200/kg) it’s well worth it. Anyhow, this was a bit lame, but then I looked around to see more scenic little islands and beaches.
After this, we stopped to go snorkeling. This time it was well worth it. They had some awesome corals and plenty of fish. I really enjoyed a group of about 30 cuttlefish. Those guys looked funny with their brown and white colors and their huge sparking eyes.
“Next stop - Maya Beach, you know the place they film The Beach movie, vely nice. This place have white sand, very beautiful. You can go relax by yourself” … Anyhow, that’s what the guide said. This was all but “relax by yourself”. There were about 30 boats on the beach and around 600 people, wow! Though, this beach really is amazing, you simply can’t enjoy a place with that many people.
Now it was lunch time and we stopped at Koh Phi Phi. There are Tsunami escape signs everywhere. I guess Phi Phi was hit the hardest among the Thai beaches. The beach looks like a blade from the top as there is water on both sides. It’s kind of like two horse shoes stuck together at the outside. I really like this island, it has a lot of amazing beaches and fantastic cliffs as well as you will see on the pictures. Lunch was quite worthless, but who cares, everything else makes up for it.
We had two more stops left, a phenomenal snorkeling place with awesome corals and then a nice beach called Bamboo beach. I think this is also a national park and really beautiful. There weren’t too many people around at this beach, so we could really enjoy it this time. At around 3:30 we left to get back to Railay beach. We hopped into the cool water of one of our pools after this very nice and quite exhausting day. Oh yeah and naturally I was having a nice Long Island Ice tea go along with the afternoon sun.
Tomorrow we are off to Koh Tao where we’ll spend most of our time now.
