Imagine thousands upon thousands of rooms in one single building, with bathrooms, hallways, bars and restaurants in tow. Sounds bigger than anything humanity has ever built? Buildings capable of housing a small town are not a figment of the imagination, but pure reality. Buildings of such a size are obviously not family homes, but sprawling hotels in some of the biggest and busiest cities of the world.

As a guest lodging in a hotel this big, you would need some very good maps, but if you are ever in the situation of not being able to find the exit in some of the top 5 most gigantic hotels in the world, at least you’ll have the certainty that they are a beautiful place to get lost in.

The Venetian and the Palazzo, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

The Venetian and the Palazzo are two separate hotels, but since they were built side by side, and are owned by the same corporation, they might as well count as one. The Palazzo is the tallest building in Nevada, but the Venetian has more rooms. Between they have more than 8,000 rooms, and all manner of extravagant features (rooftop beach cabanas, a life size replica of the bell tower of St Mark’s Basilica in Venice).

    Izmailovo Hotel, Moscow, Russia

Izmailovo Hotel is not the most luxurious hotel you can find in Russia, but thanks to its over 7000 rooms, it is the largest in the country in terms of units.

The hotel complex (consisting of four buildings) were built on an estate that belonged to the Russian tzar, and are not a bad choice by far for travelers who care about their budgets. And with such a huge number of rooms, they are bound to have a few free suites regardless of the season.

First World Hotel, Genting Highlands, Malaysia

The First World Hotel is not only one of the largest hotels in the world, but also possibly the most colorful thing ever built. The whole of the two-towered, 28 storied hotel is painted in streaks of bright colors that look very interesting from a distance.

The hotel has over 6,000 rooms, and it has scores of restaurants, cafes and fast foods to accommodate the dietary needs of its guests. The plaza under the hotel has several shopping malls, casinos and an indoor theme park.

The impressive Sand Cotai Central in Macau is a brand new hotel scheduled to open in April, already taking reservations for its 6000 rooms and suites.

The complex is split between the five star Sheraton Macao, the largest hotel of the Las Vegas Sands corporation so far, and the Holiday Inn Macaom, the largest holiday inn in the world.

Luxor Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Luxor Las Vegas is not only one of the biggest hotels in Vegas, but also one of the most recognizable landmarks of the city – it’s not easy to miss the towering black pyramid with a sphinx at the entrance. The hotel has 30 stories and some 4,400 rooms, a huge casino floor with a couple of thousands slot machines.
