Our planet would not be the same if we didn’t have rainforests, and the world as we know it would most likely be replaced by a harsher, much more inhospitable place. Rainforests produce almost a third of the planet’s oxygen turnover, they are home to more then a half of the world’s species and their are vast natural pharmacies where a quarter of our natural medicine originates from these majestic places.

Some of the most incredible wonders of the world can be found in rainforests – animals, plants and natural environments that are so beautiful that they take your breath away. Delve into the mysterious world of rainforests by visiting some of the coolest rainforest destinations in the world.

    Danum Valley, Sabah, Malaysia

Danum Valley is probably one of the most exciting rainforest regions in Asia, which is no surprise considering that it is rife with all sorts of carnivorous plants, and also home to the largest flower on the planet, the noxious smelling rafflesia. The valley is populated with hundreds of fascinating animals species, some small like flying squirrels, flying frogs or gibbons, and some more impressive, like the Sumatran rhinoceros and Asian elephant.

Madagascar’s rainforests used to be some of the lushest and richest on the planet, but excessive logging is destroying them day by day. But still, these forests are still the home of threatened species like the lemurs, and hordes of weird species of chameleons and geckos.

    The Congo rainforest, Congo

It seems like the most fascinating rainforests are always also the most threatened ones, and it is the same case in Congo, whose rainforests keeps dwindling because of farming and timbering.

Despite having some of the most interesting species of animals like gorillas and chimpanzees, the Congo rainforest is rather difficult to access because of political problems.

    The Amazon rainforest, Brazil

The Amazon covers a whopping 3.4 million square miles, but that’s nothing compared to what it used to be. Cloud forests and lowland forest with literally thousands of species of plants and animals are the norm in the Amazon, and some of the critters that you can encounter are large and sometimes dangerous: tapirs, jaguars, anaconda and vampire bats.

    Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica

The rainforests in Corcovado National Park are among the most visited on the planet, both by scientists and tourists, who are all attracted by the incredibly varied and colorful wildlife that lives in these Pacific coast could forests and lowland forests. Keep an eye our for brilliantly colored macaws and tree frogs, for squirrel monkeys and other cute, funny or scary critters.
