  • The best summer roadtrips in the US

Roadtrips are the quintessential American experience, especially (but not only) if you’re a college students who’s just experiencing their first couple of summers of freedom, when they can do whatever they want and have some adventures on their own.

Roadtrips are not only fairly cheap, but they also allow you to see many places and roadside attractions that you might not have discovered otherwise. Roadside America is completely different than big city America, and if you want to see more of it, here are the best summer roadtrips in the US.

    Highway 1, California

Most of State Route 1, more often called Highway 1, runs along the Californian coast, and although it crosses some major urban areas like Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area, most of it runs through scenic coastal landscape. One of the most picturesque stretches of Highway 1 is the Big Sur, 90 miles sandwiched between the Pacific coast and Santa Lucia mountains.

Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina and Virginia

The beauty of Blue Ridge Parkway has been immortalized in song, but not even that is enough to express that amazing things that you can see on this road stretching for over 450 miles.

Blue Ridge Parkway runs through two amazing national parks, Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. The speed limit is quite low in parts of the road, which will give you ample opportunity to admire the scenery.

    Seward Highway, Alaska

There’s not better way to experience the beauty of Alaska’s forests, glaciers and fjords than driving on this 127 mile road that links Anchorage to Seward. Although since the roads are really good the trip can be made in several hours, it is possible to stretch it out for a couple of days, with frequent stop whenever a particular bit of the scenery strikes your fancy.

Pierre to Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

What can be cooler than the impressive sights of Mount Rushmore? Well, driving to it for 200 miles through jaw-dropping scenery. If you start your trip in the capital of South Dakota and follow to route to Mount Rushmore, you get to see Badlands National Park with its amazing canyons, plus some interesting roadside attractions and quite a few diners serving buffalo burgers.

    Highway 101, Oregon

This 363 mile road with its many bends and twists seems to reveal a new bit of amazing scenery every time you take a turn. The Oregon coast is hundreds of miles of pure bliss, and you’ll have a hard time not stopping every  miles or so to take pictures of either the majestic forests or the rocky coastline.
