Now that winter is living its last days, we can only dream about the spring vacation and that unique feeling of plenitude and renewal that each spring pours into our souls. Spring time is a good time to visit almost any location around the world: the temperatures are mostly pleasant, it’s not yet peak season (so you don’t have to worry about queues and reservations) and multicolored flowers are blooming everywhere.

Although many people still prefer the Caribbean beaches or the islands of Hawaii for spending their spring break, it’s not necessary to fly as far as Australia in order to get an unforgettable spring break. All across the United States, people find the most original ways to celebrate the return of warm weather.

Spring is not only the perfect time for festivals, but also a point where nature is just drop-dead gorgeous. And if you decide to head south, you might even get some sun tan sooner that you think. Here are our picks for the 2010 spring:

New Orleans, Louisiana

Slowly regaining its powers after the thrilling Mardi Gras carnival, New Orleans calmly expects for flowers to bloom and for tourists to fill in its picturesque streets and bohemian cafes with their restless energy. Spring time arrives really early in New Orleans – this is why, by the time when the city celebrates its French Quarter Festival or the Spring Fiesta Festival, the weather is just perfect for open air parties and long walks along the city’s vibrant historic districts.

Yosemite National Park, California

Nothing compares with a late spring trip to Yosemite National Park in California. Spring time is a time when Yosemite’s breathtaking beauty reaches its peak: bright patches of snow are still lingering on top of the cliffs, the melting snow pumps life into the park’s splendid waterfalls, while the Yosemite highlands are covered by the most gracious flowers. Washington DC – Cherry Bloom Festival

Between March 27 and April 11, Washington becomes the national capital of everything ‘cherry’. Americans and not only come here in Washington DC to watch the famous cherry trees from Tidal Basin blooming.

The Cherry Bloom Festival is one of Washington’s oldest traditions: it all started almost one century ago, when Japan presented the American nation with these wonderful cherry trees. Except for the traditional bloom watching, people can attend all kind of related events, from concerts and fireworks to street parades and fund-raising galas.

Callaway Gardens, Georgia

Situated at only one hour drive from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, represent a true homage brought to the ephemeral beauty of spring flowers. The resort encompasses 4 distinct gardens, not to mention the numerous species of birds insects and butterfly that gather around this magical place every spring.

Miami, Florida

Since immemorial times, the warm beaches on the east coast have always been favorite spring break destinations. Despite the fact that Miami tends to get overcrowded with college students during spring break, Miami is the kind of destination where chances you get bored are practically non-existent. If you’re up for some partying and dancing, then you probably know about South Beach’s legendary nightlife.

If, on the other hand, you’re just trying to get the chill off, then all you have to do is to buy a chic swimsuit and choose one of Miami’s top rated beaches (which are quite a few: Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, Miami Beach Central, Crandon Park Beach and the list can continue…).
